The Battle

I think school uniform should be an optional choice for both primary and secondary schools around australia.
Here are my reasons why:

1.The cost. School uniforms are always expensive. For instance, at my little brothers primary school the jackets are an odd $35 and the microfibre jackets $60!!As students have to wear uniform every day parents would have to buy several socks, t-shirts, long sleeved t-shirts, shorts, pants, dresses and skirts(girls). You can see how the total cost of that of the 7 years of primary school and a constantly growing child would add up to a massive sum.

2. Originality. Students cant be themselves if they are all wearing the same clothes of the same colours. That is the only reason teachers mistake students for other students(if that makes any sense). Students cant have there OWN style. They are stuck with every one else's clothes.

More reasons coming soon. Just so you know im only really 10 yrs old but wriying expositions is my interest.

While I do agree with the opposition to a uniform, and aggree that an individuals originality should not be hindered, some rules of decorum should be followed.

What are your thoughts on a dress code?

I am well behind originality, but some of the fashions these days are not appropriate for a learning environment. I do not want to see Mr. Bobs buttcrack when I am trying to read Wells.

I figured it up at one point, and the cost of buying uniforms is really no more expensive than buying "regular" school clothes, for which I spend $300-$500 per child per year. Uniform or not, you're still buying new clothes every year....and with uniforms, if the school sets up a system to provide for it, you can keep the old ones in good condition and sell them to someone else who needs that size.
